Received the King Charles III Coronation Medal from the Governor General of Canada in recognition of my exemplary service to the community and Canada and commitment to public service

I am deeply humbled and exceedingly grateful to receive the King Charles III Coronation Medal from the Governor General of Canada in recognition of my exemplary service to the community and Canada and commitment to public service. Receiving this medal is not just a personal achievement, but a recognition of the hard work, dedication, and passion that I have poured into my endeavours.

I thank the Almighty God, the Governor General of Canada, and those who have supported me along the way, my family and mentors for their unwavering support and encouragement. My heartfelt thanks to MP Maninder Sidhu, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development for presenting the Medal to me on March 6, 2025 on behalf of the Governor General of Canada. I would also like to acknowledge my fellow awardees. It is a privilege to stand alongside such talented and dedicated individuals. Your achievements inspire me, and I am honored to share this moment with you.

Dr. Oluremi (Remi) Adewale is a healthcare practitioner with over twenty years of experience in Canada, a leader, and a community advocate with an intersectional approach. She is a Canadian-trained registered nurse currently working as a mental health nurse consultant with a major municipality in Canada. Dr. Adewale has engaged in and contributed to important policy conversations, reviews, and development to assist in fulfilling organizations’ responsibilities while promoting the diversity and interests of women and individuals. Her promotion of health has impacted thousands of lives both locally and internationally.

Dr. Adewale possesses exceptional organizational and management skills and abilities; highly developed interpersonal skills utilized in establishing effective working relationships and effective interactions; and outstanding leadership skills and abilities which she applies to making effective decisions in customer service-oriented environments, promoting, and fostering teamwork, and leading a team through change. Dr. Adewale has excellent critical thinking skills with the ability to learn very quickly, handle challenging workloads, and engage in reflective and independent thinking through analysis, problem-solving, and creativity.

As a proud Canadian woman of African heritage, Dr. Adewale’s fundamental beliefs are rooted in helping people, especially women and girls, reach their potential. She values diversity and inclusion, and she always looks forward to the future with optimism. Dr. Adewale’s diverse skillset has allowed her to support newcomers to Canada, those less privileged, and professionals. She has spent her time mentoring and coaching youth and women in various areas including health promotion, youth civic engagement, entrepreneurship, personal development, and economic development. She is committed to breaking down systemic barriers and building up girls, women, families, and communities.

Dr. Adewale is motivated to promote the interests of women, ensuring representation and equal participation of women and men. She is devoted to encouraging women’s active participation at all levels on all national boards, government institutions, and committees. Dr. Adewale has volunteered for specific enterprises, supporting strategic initiatives and fostering partnerships with organizations.

Remi is driven by her passion and dedication to inspire and empower people and to improve the lives and well-being of communities.

In 2018, this passion gave birth to the registration of a Canadian not-for-profit and charitable organization called Women Focus Canada Inc., which is dedicated to the relief of poverty in Canada. The services and programs offered by Women Focus include youth programs that can help young individuals develop their skills, build confidence, and achieve their full potential; youth and women’s technology development programs; leadership development workshops and programs; personal development and wellness programs; mentorship programs; skills training and acquisition for women; entrepreneurship training; girls in technology; senior women’s technology engagement; career exploration and skill-building; community service projects; cultural exchange and global awareness; and creative arts and expression.

Achievements/Awards

Dr. Adewale’s achievements and dedication are well recognized. In 2022, during Black History Month, the Nigerian Canadian Association in the Greater Toronto Area awarded her prestigious recognition in the healthcare sector. In 2017, Dr. Adewale participated in the Peel Chapter of the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario Fall for Nursing: Career Exploration event impacting the next generation of registered nurses. In 2011, Dr. Adewale received recognition from the City of Toronto and the mayor for city response work during Occupy Toronto. In 2008, she received the Academic Department Award from D’Youville College, Buffalo, United States for excellence in application of nursing theory in research.
