Women Focus Canada has actively responded to the COVID-19 pandemic through projects such as the Red Cross Society-funded community awareness project which reached more than 150 Afro-Caribbean survivors of domestic abuse survivors and those at high-risk. Participants learned about individual and group wellness, received employment and re-skilling counselling, and were connected to long-term supports and resources.
Almost 1,500 individuals from racialized communities, low-income backgrounds, newcomers, girls, and women engaged in a multi-media campaign to learn about COVID-19 prevention, transmission, and how to access care. Women Focus Canada’s innovative use of social media and WhatsApp communication campaign helped educate the Afro-Canadian community, who is at a particular high-risk of contracting the disease.
